In terms of Section 29 (2) of the Restitution of Land Rights Act, if a person applying for land restitution cannot afford to pay for legal representation, the Chief Land Claims Commissioner may arrange legal representation for such a person, either through the legal aid system or, if necessary, at the expense of the Commission. As a result of this section of Restitution of Land Rights Act, Legal Aid South Africa provides legal aid to people applying for land restitution.
